How To

Get a good print: There are TWO ways of obtaining a good quality paw print from your pet. We have done it with both dogs and cats and they both work well to produce your plaque. If you are unable to do it yourself, then perhaps a relative or friend would help. If not, then your veterinarian certainly can.

Way One:

The FIRST way provides the best detail for your plaque, but it’s slightly more difficult to obtain. You will need a sheet of copier paper, a large ink pad and possibly a clipboard or even a plate for a backing support. For cleanup of your pets paw, you will need a rag and some rubbing alcohol.

Hold his paw and either press the ink pad against the paw, or the paw against the ink pad. Be sure to get ink on all of his toes and heel. Do this several times and make sure the toes and heel are inked well. With the copier paper taped to the floor, to a clipboard or whatever you are using as a backing, press the paw against the paper. Gently push down on each toe while lightly “rocking”. Make sure you get the heel of your pets paw also. Using the same paper, get at least two or three prints. Light smudges are okay and will be removed when we process the paw print for the laser. Just remember, the better the print, the better the image will be on your plaque. After the ink dries, write the name of your pet clearly on the paper. *Place the paper on a scanner with a quarter (for reference size) placed so it will not interfere with the paw print image. Scan the image and save it to your picture files (JPEG images work best). When you place your order, you will “attach” this file to your order.

Way two:

The SECOND way to get a good paw print is very easy, all you need is a digital camera (phone) and a quarter. You can keep the quarter in place by putting a piece of doubled over tape on the quarter. Make sure you place the quarter so it does not interfere with the heel or toes when you take the picture. It works best if you have a contrasting towel or rag for the picture. Make sure you get a well lit close up that is not blurry. Again the better the picture the better the plaque. Its best if you take a few pictures, with and without flash. When you have the pictures then download them to your computer. When you place your order you can then “attach” them to your order.

We used Zuice, our current rescued dobie, for both the ink print and the picture. Notice the difference in the position of his toes and heel. The ink print we made, we had him actually standing on the paper. Here, he was lying down for the picture. We will make your plaque just like the ink print or the picture. All we will do is “bring out” the paw print. The quarter that you include in the scanning or in the photo allows us to make sure we scale it to the actual size of your pets paw.
